Raised in poverty, Donald’s mom was an immigrant from Nicaragua who went to the United States to seek polio treatment. Seeing his mom constantly in pain inspired him to pursue a career in medicine.
Auzine was smart and was sent to a Catholic Grammar school and then onto a Jesuit high school in New Orleans for three years. For his junior and senior years in high school, he went to Louisiana School for Math and Science and the Arts on the campus of Northwestern State University.
After high school, Auzine went to Loyola of New Orleans where he studied biology and chemistry. From there, he went to Tulane for medical school and did his residency at LSU in New Orleans at Charity Hospital specializing in sports medicine, physical medicine, and rehab.
By 2005, Auzine’s practice was a huge success and he found himself opening his clinic and building his home. Two months after his clinic opened their doors, tragedy struck and Hurricane Katrina destroyed both. Finding himself having to start all over again, Donald decided to move to Baton Rouge and establish a new practice.
Donald once again found success and became famous three years after starting over. He opened 4 more clinics that offered pain management, cosmetic services, and treatment for opiate addiction.
On April 3, 2008, Donald hit rock bottom and was arrested for quirky rule of law of helping too many people become opioid-free. Faced with a jail sentence of up to 20 years, Donald pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years in the state penitentiary.
Donald’s book will share the life lessons he learned from his Mom and how they saw him through tough times. He shares how he was able to retain his compassion and forgave people who hurt him. He not only “moved the needle” in the lives of guards, inmates and everyone in his life, but is now pursuing a career to help countless more with his message of integrity and kindness.
